Holy crap this is good stuff (not the Rummy stuff, but the continuing discussion beneath it):

A recent study of transportation firms found that long-term use of employee involvement initiatives increased stress and decreased employee fulfillment—exactly contrary to the encyclicals’ expectations. A study of “empowered” employees versus a control group of unempowered employees within a single insurance company found no statistical difference between the two groups on such productivity-related issues as motivation or even on some job satisfaction measurements.

...

In firms adopting self-directed work teams, ten to twenty percent of employees will resist the change because they prefer a mundane job to the greater responsibility and higher expectations associated with team membership. Other studies have found even higher rates of resistance...

empahsis mine.

Why, then, are teams and self-management ideals pushed so hard in so many industries? Hopefully studies like this will eventually filter into HR departments and change will ensue.

JOE SOUCHERAY hits the nail on the head with regard to light transit in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Except, of course, it doesn't go to St. Paul.

Celebrities are dumb. here. Streisand:
I am deeply disappointed that CBS ... now caved in to right wing Republican pressure to cancel the network broadcast of the movie The Reagans.
One can only imagine the kind of pressure that would compel CBS to take such an extraordinary action. This was an organized Republican spin machine at work. Remember the Dixie Chicks controversy? It wasn't the larger general public that called in to radio stations and burned CDs, it was a small group of right wing activists.

Evidently people that react with disapproval towards celebrities who publicly express repugnance for the US of A are "activists". Nice to see CBS can the movie, though. Way to go Right Wing Conspiracy!
